University of Sydney Wikibomb — October 22, 2014

Do you love reading, writing and chocolate?

The University of Sydney Wikibomb can give you all those things and more!  This unique, hands-on, edit-a-thon, will be the first in a series of events connected with the Women at Sydney: share, connect, change symposium.

Wikipedia is a popular research resource in the wider community however there exists a distinct gender imbalance when it comes to articles about notable women. The University of Sydney Wikibomb is an exclusive, edit-a-thon, being co-hosted by the University of Sydney and Wikipedia to redress this imbalance.

The wikibomb sessions will simultaneously raise the profile of notable University of Sydney women (alumni, current and former academic and professional staff) and educate volunteers in the techniques of wiki-writing and editing. Our wikibomb target is 100 new Wikipedia articles of notable University of Sydney women consisting of two robust paragraphs of 100 words each. The Vice-Chancellor will launch the 100 new Wikipedia articles at the symposium on Saturday 1 November.

Four sessions (2 to 4pm or 4 to 6pm) are occurring concurrently in learning labs on the Camperdown Campus on Friday 31 October. Wiki-experts will be on-site to help you participate, create and edit your articles. Experienced writers and research-citation experts are encouraged to attend. If you can’t be there in person virtual slots are also available. Chocolates, strawberries and champagne will be provided at the sessions!
